On A Hill Called Calvary was my first venture into screenwriting many years ago (long before I ever picked up a camera). I drew upon the confusion and angst that had festered during my Roman Catholic upbringing. Much like the biblical stories referenced, On A Hill Called Calvary is an allegorical tale about sin, Catholic guilt and penance.
I wanted to portray a flawed main character, severely lacking in moral fibre, who still wrestles with the religious dogma presented to him as a child.
The film is representative of truly independent cinema. Made for almost no budget, only made possible because of a group of passionate filmmakers dedicating their time, effort and talent.
