Medea

Medea is a short series based of Euripide’s Greek tragedy Medea. The series tells the story of Medea who is abandoned by her husband, Jason. The jilted Medea plans to avenge this infidelity. This version is filmed in the metaverse using the free 3d software unreal engine.

Director Statement

I have studied Euripide’s Medea for over three years and have always wanted to make a Film Noir version of the play. This has been made possible by using the free 3d software Unreal Engine. I have used the 3d tracking capability of the iPhone to film and track the actors and then place them in virtual worlds made in Unreal Engine. I have tried to re-create the mis-en-scene of some of the favourite movies; Vertigo, Casablanca, Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, The Maltese Falcon amongst others. The original soundtrack which is available on Spotify attempts to reflect the feeling of Bernard Herrmann who is synonymous with the great Hitchcock movies of 1950s and 60s.
